Our President Yusuf Engin and International Relations Expert Pinar Pehlivanoglu attended to European Network of Education Training and Employment Observatories in Textile and Clothing Project” follow up seminar in Warsaw in 09–10 March 2009.

The acceleration of globalization in general, and particularly in the textile-clothing sector (TC), but also the actual financial crisis and its impact on the real economy, mean huge challenges in terms of adapting to changes.

In this context, the European TC social partners, ETUF:TCL (European Trade Union Federation: Textile, Clothing, Leather) and Euratex (Employers Organization), decided last year to conduct a joint project on TC Observatories which already exist in some Member States. These bodies deal with anticipating change and its consequences in terms of jobs as well as essential skills developments.
A first meeting was held in Paris, mid-November 2008, and allowed  to draw up a report on what exists with a view to highlighting good practices, with the expertise of the IFM (Institut Français de la Mode) and the support of the European Commission.

Subsequently, the partners/representatives from BE, DK, EL, ES, FR, IT, UK and PT, but also from HU, PL and TR, examined in Warsaw, on March 9-10: 1/to what extent the creation of such bi- or tripartite instances would be desirable in NMSs and ACs; 2/ the feasability of networking the existing organisations.
The results of the research and the European networking project for these "TC Observatories" will be presented at a final conference in Brussels, end April.
